Security Online NI

Posted on December 14th, 2010

As the year closes new stats are published by IT industry and world governments on various topics. Today our interest was in online security mainly malware as this is the single biggest issue we see home user’s and small business facing in the ever connected world. At its core is identity and information fraud in the UK and Ireland.

Facts of interest that we believe gives a good indication of things to come.

-There is 60,000 new pieces of malicious code discovered each day, that four times as many as in 2007.
-Yougov has also reported from a survey that 10% of UK adults have said they were victims of online fraud.

Looking at this from an independent point of view you can easily tell that it’s not going away and obviously will get worst in 2011. The grouping of information by players such as Twitter and Facebook have left it increasing easy for “cyber thief’s” to gather information and trends to use against their users.

Make no mistake these are highly intelligent organized and well financed crews, way more advanced than the latest “advanced anti/security/updated pro plus” application thing could ever be. In the 90’s it was about showing who had the mad programming skills and general ego, now its all about the money.

Understand, this great malware issue isn’t going to be solved by corporations or governments – Dee 2006
